Dual Degree FAQ
Students who apply for a dual degree are awarded two graduation certificates once they complete their studies - a German certificate from IU, and a British certificate from London South Bank University (hereinafter referred to as LSBU).
The degree acquired from LSBU is not related to IU in any way. LSBU alone is responsible for issuing the British graduation certificate, and IU acts solely as the mediator between the student and the University. IU has no influence on how LSBU decide to award its certificates.
Upon successful completion of the student’s studies at IU, we transmit the information and documents to LSBU, who – pending completion of all prerequisites by the student – issue the British graduation certificate.
In order to apply for a dual degree, the following requirements must be met:
- The student must be registered to one of the selected study programmes (see list above).
- A fee of €1,490 must be paid. The fee is only €990 if you apply within the first month of your studies.
- The application to for a dual degree must be submitted before completing the first 40 ECTS points (for students in a 90 ECTS points programme) or the first 25 ECTS points (for students in a 60 ECTS points programme).
Dual degree students enjoy the same educational process as any other IU student, and there are no further demands or tasks that need to be done outside of your studies at IU. LSBU extensively and regularly examines our study programmes, in order to ensure that students who complete their studies at IU are eligible for a British degree as well.
Students who successfully complete their studies at IU, and have applied for Dual Studies, are therefore eligible for a certificate from LSBU as well – without any extra modules or exams.
With a dual degree, students earn an additional internationally recognised degree, without having to complete any further courses or perform any studies at any other university but IU.
Having both degrees on your CV can greatly improve your career prospects.
Upon successful completion of all academic duties required to earn your degree, your information and documents will be submitted by us to LSBU. This initiates the process of issuing your British certificate, which you will receive no later than 6 months after graduating from IU.
Please note: LSBU only awards graduation certificates twice a year. Due to that fact, you might receive your British certificate only several months after graduating from IU.
